Quick answer
On a tablet, the staff app shows a sidebar with Home, Calendar, Teams, Notices and Messages, and displays many screens in two columns. Music Studio, and Attendance in portrait, use the full screen.
The staff app works the same way on a phone and tablet: it has the same screens, permissions and data. On a tablet, the layout changes to make use of the larger screen.
Before you start
The tablet layout is available when the club has enabled it. It is being rolled out gradually, club by club. If your club does not have it yet, the app looks as it does on a phone.
Check that the active club is correct before you start.
Step by step
1. Use the sidebar
The sidebar shows icons and names when the window is at least 1024 pixels wide: in landscape and also in portrait on larger tablets. In portrait on standard tablets, it shows icons only to leave more room for content.
Its links are Home, Calendar, Teams, Notices and Messages — the same navigation as the phone’s bottom bar. Messages appears only if you have permission to send messages or belong to a group. Belonging to a group lets you open that group, but does not give access to individual messages from families.
Below, the Tools section contains Received orders, Send announcement, Music Studio and Payments. Each item appears only if you have its permission: both the role’s default permissions and settings for your account apply. Music Studio also requires that the club has enabled it. Dashboard access does not replace these permissions, and Manage shop is separate from Record cash payments.
Permissions also apply within screens: editing sessions, recording results and viewing a guardian’s contact details have their own controls. When the app receives a permission removal, it hides the relevant links and actions, even if they were already open.
At the bottom are the time clock, with Clock in or Clock out, and your profile.
On Home, the tablet adds My week to one side. On a phone, My week remains under Profile.
2. Open lists with their details
In Messages, Notices, Teams and Received orders, the list appears on one side and the details on the other, in both landscape and portrait. In portrait, the list is narrower. There is no back button: choose another item in the list to change the details shown.
In Received orders, when the tablet is in portrait, each order appears as a card so it fits beside the details.
When you open a session with the tablet in landscape, the left column brings together the header, Take attendance, the Training plan, View team roster and the Group records. The right shows the Music player and, below it, Group and day notes. Move and Cancel are in the top bar and open their form in a centred panel. In portrait, the session runs in one column with the Music player before View team roster.
The player offers the team’s exported music. You change the order with the arrows, remove a track with the X and add others with Add music, from the team’s exported tracks or the Club folder. The bar shows progress and lets you jump to another point, and the buttons go back or forward 10 seconds. With Automatically select the next track, when a track ends the next one is selected, but it does not play until you press play. The queue order is not saved. It appears only if the club has Music Studio enabled; offline it uses the music saved on the tablet.
The Training plan is shown only if the club has the training workspace enabled, you coach that team and the session has a prepared plan. It is read-only: the plan is prepared from the club dashboard.
3. Rotate the tablet
If you rotate the tablet while a thread, profile or order is open, you continue viewing the same details.
4. Take attendance
With the tablet in landscape, Take attendance keeps the sidebar. In portrait it opens without it so the athlete grid has the whole screen. In both cases, the Save attendance button stays in the top bar. The Music Studio editor always uses the full screen.
If the club revokes your team access when the session is refreshed, the saved roster stops appearing and Save attendance disappears from the top bar. A temporary network failure lets you continue with the session already loaded, as on a phone.
5. Type with the keyboard
When the on-screen keyboard opens, the app adjusts so that the field you are typing in and the form’s main button remain visible. In Take attendance (Save attendance), Send announcement (Send announcement) and New message (Send), the main action also appears in the top bar.
If you use a physical keyboard, the bar at the bottom of the tablet does not change the app layout.
6. Centre panels
Panels that slide up from the bottom on a phone open in the centre of the screen. With the on-screen keyboard open, a panel moves to the top so the keyboard does not cover it.
If something goes wrong
- The tablet shows the phone layout: your club may not have enabled the tablet version yet. Ask an administrator to check. If the app is in a narrow window, such as Split View or Slide Over, it also shows the phone layout.
- The sidebar is missing during a task: that is expected. Music Studio does not show it, and neither does Attendance with the tablet in portrait.
- The player is missing in the session: it appears on the tablet, in landscape and portrait, if the club has Music Studio enabled. On the phone, open Music from the session.
- A tool or action is missing: check the active club and ask an administrator to review your specific permissions as well as your role.
Next step
To review the roster and calendar, see View your teams and sessions in the staff app. To record attendance, follow Take attendance, even offline.
