Build music for an exercise in Music Studio

Create a project in Music, add songs, trim them, undo changes and export the exercise's final MP3.

Quick answer

Create a project with New music, add songs to a track, trim them and adjust fades and volume. Undo the last 50 actions if needed. Select Save now before exporting the MP3 and saving the track.

Music Studio lets you build music for an exercise without leaving your browser: combine songs, trim them, apply fades and export an MP3 ready for competition. Everything is saved to the club’s cloud storage.

Available to clubs with Music Studio enabled.

Before you start

  • Music must appear in the club dashboard menu or, in the staff app, Music Studio under Home → Shortcuts. If neither appears, Music Studio is not enabled for your club or you do not have the Music Studio permission.
  • Availability depends on the club’s sport (gymnastics, skating, swimming and multisport include it) and on Clybo’ enabling it for your club.
  • Music Studio is in the club dashboard and staff app (Home → Shortcuts → Music Studio). Head coach, Assistant coach and Administration have access by default; the Music Studio permission is set individually. In the staff app, you do not need Access to management dashboard. The author or a manager can edit and delete music; everyone else can open it read-only and Duplicate it. Managers can search active athletes across the whole club; other staff can search athletes in the teams they coach.
  • Have songs ready in MP3, WAV or M4A format, up to 25 MB each.
  • It works on computers, tablets and phones. In the dashboard, use Chrome, Edge or Firefox; Safari may have limitations.

Step by step

1. Create a project

Open Music and select New music. Fill in the dialogue:

  • Name: the project title.
  • Discipline: Individual (1’15“–1’30“), Group (2’15“–2’30“) or Free duration.
  • Performed by: optional. Search for athletes; they are added as chips.
  • Group name: appears if you choose Group or add more than one athlete.
  • Apparatus: one for Individual; for Group, you can add several with quantities, for example Rope ×3 and Hoop ×2.
  • Category: optional free text, with suggestions learned from your club.

Select Create and open to enter the editor.

2. Add songs

In Library, select Add songs or drag in MP3, WAV or M4A files. If the club has already uploaded a song for another project, choose it under Club folder. While it downloads, its row shows “Loading…”.

Uploading a song requires a connection and the Music Studio permission. Wait for it to finish saving; it will then appear in the editor’s Library and under the club’s Songs. If an error appears, check Songs before trying the upload again: selecting the file or finishing its transfer does not by itself confirm that it was saved.

Uploading the song keeps its file in the club. Changes to the arrangement—adding it to a track, moving or trimming it—are kept when you select Save now, as explained in step 7.

On iPhone, Add songs opens the device file picker. Find the MP3, WAV or M4A in Files and select it. If you received it by email or messaging, save it to Files first; if it is in iCloud, check that you can download and open it.

The picker also accepts AAC, OGG (.ogg or .oga) and MP4 files with audio. The browser you are using must be able to read the song; if it cannot decode it, the editor shows an error and does not add it.

Select the Add to end (+) button on a song to place it on a track. You start with Track 1; select Add track if you need more. The Final mix row in the timeline shows the combined result.

The speaker icon next to the name of each track containing music lets you mute it. Select it again to restore the sound. Clips remain in place, but a muted track is left out of playback and the exported MP3; the Final mix waveform and its meters reflect the change. The start beep still plays and the arrangement duration stays the same.

Muting a track changes the arrangement: you can undo it with Undo and must select Save now to keep it when you reopen the project. This is available on computer, tablet and phone to anyone who can edit; the button is not shown in read-only mode. Music already exported keeps its audio until you export again and replace the track.

On a computer, the mouse wheel zooms the timeline around the pointer (hold Shift while scrolling to move horizontally). At high zoom, the waveform is drawn using the actual audio samples and the ruler shows milliseconds, so you can align cuts and overlaps precisely. Right-click a clip to open its actions: Split (when the playhead is inside the clip), Duplicate and Delete.

3. Trim

Select a clip on the timeline and drag its edges to trim it. You can also fine-tune it in the inspector under Original song trim, using the Start and End fields.

Clip inspector with Start, End and Track, and Undo available above the timeline.

4. Apply fades and adjust volume

In the inspector under Fades, set the Fade in and Fade out duration and curve (Linear, Equal power or Exponential). You can also drag the circles on the clip. Adjust the volume in the same inspector. Select Fade overlaps to set the fade-out of one song and fade-in of the next to the full duration they share. Select it again if you later change their positions or trims and want to adjust the new overlaps.

The editor automatically compensates for the level of songs that overlap, both during playback and export. It does so during overlaps even if they do not reach clipping, and also with Equal power fades, to prevent the increase in amplitude caused by summing tracks. It preserves the relative volume of the clips, but the transition may sound slightly quieter. It also protects sample peaks so they do not exceed −1 dBFS. Fade overlaps is still useful for deciding how one song fades out and the next fades in.

On the Final mix waveform, pink bars indicate peaks with an estimated risk of clipping before automatic protection; the rest appears in burgundy. This is a conservative estimate: a quiet overlap is not marked just because two songs coincide, and pink does not confirm distortion in the protected output. Lower the clips’ volume or Overall volume, or adjust their fades, to reduce those peaks. The colour is only a visual aid and does not change the audio.

5. Adjust the final mix level

Select the Final mix row and enable Constant volume in its inspector. Adjust Level and Intensity if needed. This processes the entire arrangement once, after mixing the clips and fades and before Overall volume. It is available only for Final mix; each song keeps its own volume and fades without individual processing. Listen to the result and transitions before exporting: reducing level differences does not guarantee the same perceived loudness in every section, and final protection still limits peaks.

Older arrangements that had Constant volume enabled on a clip now use a single setting for the final mix, taken from the first clip on the timeline where it was enabled. If they had several different settings, they are not kept separately and the sound may change. Review the mix, select Save now and export again when it is ready; music already exported keeps its audio until you replace it.

6. Add the start beep

Open Signals and choose Start beep (1000 Hz, 0.6 s) to mark the gymnast’s start.

7. Check the duration and save the arrangement

The duration indicator compares the result with the selected discipline. If it shows, for example, “Too long: 0:31 over” or “Too short: … missing”, trim or add music until it fits.

Select Save now in the top bar; on a phone, this is the save icon button. You can also find it in the ⋯ menu. The editor only saves when you select it: wait until you see Saved. While the response has not arrived, or if you make more changes during saving, it continues to show Unsaved; save again to keep those changes.

Leaving the editor or reloading discards unsaved changes. Switching tabs does not save them either. When you reopen the project with a connection, the latest version saved to the club loads; no local draft is recovered. Songs you have already uploaded remain under Songs, and you can choose them from Club folder.

Undo a change by mistake

Use Undo, above the timeline, to restore a clip you deleted or return to the previous state before a trim, move, volume or fade change. It also restores a song you removed from this arrangement’s Library. If you deleted its clips first, keep undoing to restore them. It is available on computers, tablets and phones, for up to the last 50 actions in the session.

Redo reapplies the action you just undid. If you make a new change after undoing, you can no longer redo the changes you removed. A continuous drag or adjustment of a control counts as one action; selecting a clip, playing music or changing zoom does not use up the history.

Use Ctrl + Z (Windows/Linux) or ⌘ + Z (Mac) to undo; use Ctrl + Shift + Z, ⌘ + Shift + Z or Ctrl + Y to redo. While typing in a field, these shortcuts continue to edit that field’s text.

Saving does not clear this history: you can undo an edit after saving it. Undo and Redo change the arrangement you see but do not send it to the club. If Unsaved appears, select Save now to keep the result. Leaving the editor or reloading clears the history; it starts again when you open the project.

This history is for actions within the arrangement. If you delete a song, project or exported track from the Music screen, see what each action deletes before confirming; the editor’s Undo cannot restore those deletions.

8. Export and save

Check that the arrangement shows Saved, then select Export MP3. If there are unsaved changes, the editor asks you to save them before exporting or duplicating the arrangement. The mix is created on your device; while it is processing, a circle fills to show progress. On a phone, music that is several minutes long may take more than a minute. When it finishes, a card shows the result: MP3 at 192 kbps, duration, size and peak. From there:

  • Save as exported music keeps it in the Exported tab under Music.
  • Download saves the file to your device. In the Android app, it is saved to Downloads and the “Download complete” notification appears; tap it to open the MP3. On Android 9 or earlier, the first download asks for permission to access files.

In the ⋯ menu, Normalise to −1 dBFS adjusts the level of the whole export based on its peak when Constant volume is disabled. With Constant volume enabled, this option is hidden and the export uses the Final mix setting, just like playback, without replacing its Level. Overlap compensation and peak protection also work when both options are disabled. The ceiling protects samples in the mixed audio; it does not guarantee the inter-sample peak or the MP3 peak after encoding.

If you edit the arrangement again, the previous export card closes. Save the changes and export again to get the updated result.

MP3 files that were already saved keep their audio. To apply overlap compensation and peak protection to an earlier track, open its arrangement, select Export MP3 again and choose Save as exported music. If you downloaded or shared the earlier file, replace that copy too.

9. Edit arrangement details

You can change the name, discipline, category, apparatus, group name or athletes for an existing piece of music, including from the staff app. You do not need to open the editor or change the audio.

  1. In the dashboard, open Music → Projects; in staff, open Home → Shortcuts → Music Studio → Arrangements.
  2. Find the arrangement and open its ⋯ menu. If Unlock appears, select it first and reopen the menu. Only the author or a manager can remove the lock and edit the details.
  3. Under Performed by, search for and select the gymnast; remove an assignment with the × next to their name. Managers can search active athletes across the whole club; other staff can search athletes from the teams they coach. The names of athletes who have left the club are retained as history.
  4. Select Save and wait until you see “Details saved”. Closing without saving discards the form changes; there is no automatic save.

Changes apply to the arrangement. If it already has music under Exported, that track keeps the name, apparatus and athletes it had when exported. To show the new gymnast or group under Exported and in the team’s Music, open the arrangement, select Export MP3 again and choose Save as exported music.

When the arrangement is finished, select Lock in its actions menu so nobody changes it by mistake. It can still be played and exported; to edit it again, select Unlock.

On a phone or tablet

The editor adapts its layout to the screen width.

Tablet editor with a song on Track 3 and Undo and Redo above the timeline.

Mobile editor with a song on Track 3, the save button and Undo and Redo controls.

On the timeline:

  • Tap a clip to open its actions: Edit, Split, Duplicate and Delete.
  • Edit shows Trim, Fades and Volume.
  • To move a clip, press and hold it briefly, then drag it to the position and track you want, such as Track 2 or Track 3. Drop it on the destination track. Drag trim and fade handles directly.
  • You can also tap Edit → Trim and select Track. On computers and tablets, this selector is in the clip inspector; changing only the track preserves its timing and fades.
  • Use the buttons to change zoom.
  • The speaker button in each track header mutes or restores its sound, just as on a computer.
  • On a phone, Fade overlaps is in the ⋯ menu.
  • Undo and Redo are above the timeline, including on phones.

Limits

  • Reference durations: Individual 1’15“–1’30“ and Group 2’15“–2’30“. Free duration has no limit.
  • Each song can be up to 25 MB. Larger files are rejected before upload.
  • Each club has 200 MB in total by default; Clybo’ can increase it if you need more.
  • Each project has one exported track. If you export and save again, it replaces the previous one.
  • The history keeps the last 50 actions in the open session. It cannot restore earlier actions after leaving or reloading.
  • All staff with access can see every project, but only its author or a manager can edit or delete it. Others can select Duplicate and work on their own copy; a read-only notice appears in the editor.

If something does not work

  • I cannot see Music in the menu: Music Studio is not enabled for your club (because of its sport or because Clybo’ has not enabled it yet), or your role does not include the permission.
  • A song shows “Unavailable”: it did not pass validation. Remove it under Songs and upload it again, preferably as an MP3.
  • I cannot upload more songs: the club has run out of storage. See Manage club music, songs and storage.
  • My changes were not saved: check your connection and select Save now again. Wait until you see Saved before leaving; an error leaves the arrangement marked Unsaved.
  • The editor asks me to save before exporting or duplicating: select Save now, wait for confirmation and try again.
  • I deleted or changed something by mistake: select Undo while you are still in the editor. When the arrangement is right, select Save now if it shows Unsaved.
  • Undo or Redo is disabled: no more actions are available in that direction or the session has ended. History goes back up to 50 actions. These buttons are not shown for read-only arrangements.
  • Edit details does not appear: if the menu shows Unlock, remove the lock first and reopen the menu. If you are not the author or a manager, use Duplicate to edit your own copy.
  • The new assignment does not appear under Exported or in the team’s music: saving details changes the arrangement; export it again and choose Save as exported music to replace the earlier track with the new details.
  • The overlap sounds quieter: the editor compensates for the increase in amplitude when tracks overlap, even if they do not clip. Select Fade overlaps and adjust clip volume while listening to the transition.
  • I see pink lines in Final mix: they indicate peaks with a risk of clipping before automatic protection. Lower the volume or adjust fades in that section; pink is a conservative estimate and does not prove that the protected output is clipping.
  • A track appears but is silent in the mix or MP3: check its speaker button. If it is muted, restore its sound, select Save now and export again to include it.
  • I cannot see Constant volume when I select a song: select Final mix; this setting applies to the whole arrangement and is controlled from its inspector.
  • I can still hear distortion: check the original song separately. Mix protection cannot repair distortion already in a file or distortion caused by playback equipment. If you are listening to an old export, export the arrangement again to apply current protection.
