Practical guide

Take part in club groups as a family

Tell groups from direct conversations, reply when allowed, attach files and manage notifications.

Quick answer

Open Messages and choose a group from your inbox. You can read it and, if families have permission, send text or files; you can also edit messages for 15 minutes and mute notifications.

The Messages inbox brings together direct contacts with the club and groups your family belongs to. Groups support team conversations or noticeboards and show only the information needed to recognise participants.

If the club adds your athlete to a team linked to a group, their main guardian gets access within seconds. The open inbox refreshes automatically every 10 seconds. If you still cannot see it, check with the club that you are the main guardian and that the team is linked to the chat; other guardians can be added individually. A temporary issue may delay the addition, but the system keeps the change and recovers it.

Before you start

Check the active club and read the group’s purpose. The first time you take part in a group where families can write, review the privacy notice. Other families are identified in abbreviated form; their contact details and photos are not shown to you.

Step by step

1. Tell groups from direct conversations

In Messages, groups use a square icon or photo, while individual conversations use a round avatar. Open the correct row and check the name, description and pending activity.

2. View the available history

Scroll through messages and load earlier content when you need it. The club decides whether someone who joins later can see the full history or only messages posted after they joined.

3. Write when the group allows it

If the reply field appears, you can send text, up to five files or a message containing attachments only. In a noticeboard-style group, families have read-only access, although the club and staff can continue posting.

4. Edit or delete your messages

You can edit your own message during the first 15 minutes and delete it afterwards if needed. The thread marks edited messages and keeps an indicator when content is deleted.

5. Mute notifications without leaving the group

From the options, choose to mute for 8 hours, one week or indefinitely. You will stop receiving push notifications, but messages will continue to arrive and will still count as unread.

Nearby messages are grouped for about 30 seconds. A new alert may replace the previous one from the same group and request another notification; its sound depends on your phone settings. Temporary sending failures are retried per device. If your account is also staff, group alerts prioritise that app; if it has no available devices, the tutor app is tried.

To turn on notifications, understand their automatic recovery and check the sound on iPhone, see Turn on phone notifications.

6. Keep the history of archived groups

When the club archives a group, you can still view it in read-only mode. Only an administrator can reactivate it; use a direct conversation to raise a new issue.

If something goes wrong

  • You cannot reply: it may be a noticeboard or an archived group; check the notice beside the thread.
  • You cannot see older messages: the group may limit history to messages from after you joined.
  • Your edit does not appear: more than 15 minutes have passed since you sent the message.
  • There are still unread messages after you mute the group: that is expected; muting only turns off notifications.
